The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance is reminding people to be on the lookout for con-artists using technology to scam you.

The Federal Trade Commission says the Volunteer State has the 10th highest rate per capita for fraud reports.

Here are some tips to help protect you from scammers:

  • Make sure you have strong passwords
  • Don't store passwords on your browser
  • Never give personal or financial information over the phone

If you get a call claiming to be from the IRS or law enforcement threatening arrest, hang up. It's always a scam.
