LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Police in Georgia say a man has been shot by officers responding to reports of possible gang activity.

News outlets report Gwinnett County police say their gang unit was sent to a residential area near Lawrenceville Tuesday night. They say yelling was heard coming from behind a home. Police say officers then heard at least one gunshot and found an armed man arguing with a resident.

They say officers saw the man aim a gun at his own head and ordered him to drop the weapon. They say he instead moved his gun in the direction of the officers, who then opened fire. He was shot in the arm and taken to a hospital. His condition is unclear.

Authorities haven't released the name of the man or officers involved.
